We are delighted to announce that the 2017 Bebras National Finals will take place on Saturday, April 22nd in the Eolas Building, NUI Maynooth, as part of the Bebras Computing Challenge. The Challenge is run in November each year around the world in over 30 countries. We had a difficult job selecting 30 projects to proceed to the national finals, from over 545 entries all around the country. We have been through 2 rounds of judging from over 50 judges and the standard of Scratch projects created this year was very high. The Minister of State for Training, Skills and Innovation, John Halligan TD, today launched Tech Week 2017, Ireland’s national festival of technology aimed at students, parents and the public, which takes place all over Ireland this year from 22-28 April.
Organised by the ICS Foundation, the social enterprise arm of the Irish Computer Society, and sponsored by Science Foundation Ireland, this exciting week of events will see more than 100,000 students take part in a range of fun activities, including the finals of several Tech Week events. Valentina Dagiene, Founder of the Bebras Challenge on Informatics and Computational Thinking, has been announced as the winner of the Ada Lovelace Computing Excellence Award at the 2016 European Celebration of Women in Computing Awards. The event celebrates Europe’s best female technology talents by recognising their achievements to date. It aims to provide a new strategy, community and tools for women in technology to become global e-leaders in their field(s).
