The Tech Week Sessions at Féile na Bealtaine

As part of the Tech Week sessions at Féile na Bealtaine, two speakers will share their experiences and their passion for what they do. The Ever changing Story - using technology on the move In a technology driven age, how do we maintain the human elements to our stories? What makes a story and how do we bring it to life? Speaker Lisa O Leary (EN) Lisa is the Communications Officer for the End FGM European Network NGO, based in Brussels. Receiving her BA in Irish language communications from NUI Galway in 2010, Lisa originally worked as an actress for TG4 before deciding to take a break and move abroad to work in human rights. Lisa specialises in multimedia and ran multimedia communications for The International School of Brussels for 4 years where she taught and practiced camera, video editing and media studies. Lisa has a passion for storytelling and runs her own online communications platform to help assist other NGOs with their brand. "What is Big Data and how have you already been using it?" Speaker: Alan Toomey Alan Toomey, is a Senior Manager for Business Analytics in SolarWinds, who specialise in IT management software. Alan runs the Business Intelligence software for and provides insights and dashboards on Big Data for many of their teams." Big Data is already quietly changing how we live. We need to be aware of how it’s happening, in order to take advantage of it. It provides us with the means to change the world, forecast the future based on past habits, and unlock potential in our businesses. In this talk Alan will discuss how big data is being used and its impact on our lives. . This event will be part of the Tech Week Sessions at Féile na Bealtaine (http://feilenabealtaine.ie/home/) Féile na Bealtaine (FnaB), held annually on the Dingle Peninsula has evolved from a tentative day-long event in the mid nineties to a bursting-at-the-seams, multi disciplinary arts festival with over 100 separate events over the course of five days in 2017. It has become a vibrant, robust and well attended and regarded festival. We are committed to creating a stronger community through the act of organising a festival, through exploration of the arts in its many manifestations, through creating social spaces not related to alcohol or its promotion, and through the relentless encouragement of local people into artistic endeavours.
